An ancient, gnarled tree leans out over a still lake, its dead branches reaching toward a sky split by iridescent clouds and a low, glowing sun. An empty wooden rowboat sits tethered at the shore beneath it, waiting for someone who hasn't shown up yet. The exposed rocky shoreline stretches out in the foreground, littered with driftwood and stripped of any green. Sunset Boat quotes Hemingway on the sea's indifference and then paints a scene that agrees with him completely.
