Winter Springs

One shaft of low sun finds the single gap in a frozen tree line and lights the creek beneath it gold, while the rest of the forest stays exactly as white and still as winter insists it should. A small dark bird has claimed the one branch with a view. Winter gets called cold and colorless more often than it deserves — this is the five minutes a day that argument doesn't hold up.
