A white winged horse plants a front hoof on a bare outcrop rising above an unbroken layer of cloud, the impact throwing up a burst of light and water where hoof meets stone. Its wings are spread wide against a sky shifting from storm-grey to violet, lit from somewhere below the horse itself rather than by any visible sun. Green hills are just visible through a gap in the clouds at the lower left, the only trace of solid ground beneath the scene. Nothing about the pose suggests landing or departure — the horse looks caught mid-strike, already in motion before the image began.
