In The Beginning
by Igor Zenin
Two figures stand beneath the spread of a single tree, its bark lit red and gold as if the wood itself were smoldering. One hands the other a bitten piece of fruit, the exchange caught at the moment of contact, both faces soft-focused and turned down toward it rather than at each other. Behind them a meadow washes out into haze, with a few pale animals grazing in the distance as the only other sign of life. The scene borrows its shape from the oldest version of this story without adding anything new to it — the fruit changes hands, and that's the whole of the image.
