A row of prayer candles burns low in front of a gold-leafed icon, one flame catching the lens just right to throw a small rainbow halo around itself. The saint's eyes sit just behind the fire, watching the same flicker everyone lighting a candle here has watched. Devotion doesn't need much room to work — a wick, some wax, and something worth looking at while it burns.
