Three sparrows loom enormous on a bare branch while an entire landscape — river, church steeple, green fields — shrinks down to something you could hold in one hand beneath them. It's a straightforward trick of scale played completely straight, birds turned into giants without changing a single feather. Perspective is the whole subject here, not just the setup.
