Deep red vine leaves hang low across the top of the frame, dark enough to read almost as black against the pale mist behind them. Beyond the leaves a meadow dissolves into fog, with a cow and a horse grazing far enough off that they're little more than shapes against the grey. Shafts of light cut down through the haze at an angle, catching a scatter of dark berries tangled in the vine overhead. The foreground is bare, leaf-strewn ground — the kind of stillness that comes from weather rather than staging.
