Winter's Twilight

A pale moon burns through frost-laced branches above a lake where the water has caught fire with hot pink and magenta light, a few birds scattered low over the surface. The frost climbs every branch in fine white lines, sharp against the near-black canopy overhead. Below, the color intensifies until it looks less like sunset and more like the lake itself is glowing from within. Winter's Twilight finds that narrow window when cold and heat seem to trade places for a few minutes.
