A small motorboat cuts across a river burning with autumn color, its wake the only disturbance on an otherwise mirror-still surface. Overhead, blurred red leaves hang close to the lens, framing a scene where sky and water trade places in saturation — both impossibly blue, both reflecting the same fire-colored trees lining the banks. The boatman himself is barely more than a shape, dwarfed by the color surrounding him on every side. The Lone Boatman treats a single figure as the calm center of an otherwise overwhelming season.
