A cobblestone promenade lifts away from the earth and hangs in open sky, carrying the mass of an entire European city with it — lit windows, stone facades, a church steeple running up to the stars. A winged figure clings to the far end where the stone drops away into nothing. Far below, a real city spreads out in the dark, small enough to make the floating one look like the original. On The Edge asks, without quite asking, what holds a place together when there is no ground beneath it.
