A row of golden birch trees frames a distant village, a church and a still blue lake all held together by heavy, storm-dark cloud overhead. The trees act almost like a proscenium, color and light doing the introducing before the eye ever reaches the village itself. October turns an ordinary framed view into something closer to a stage set.
