Moon Rising

A herd of white horses gallops across a blue nocturnal plain toward the viewer, the lead horse close enough to fill the left third of the frame. Behind them, snow-capped mountains rise in a deep blue haze, and above and to the right a large full moon sits in a clear cobalt sky. Everything in the image is rendered in blues and whites — the horses, the mountains, the ground mist, the sky — as though the moonlight has converted the whole world to its own palette. Moon Rising is the classic image of the white horse herd, held inside a night that is entirely the moon's.
