From a high vantage above the Dniester River, an entire eastern European summer unpacks itself in layers: hay bales dotting golden fields in the foreground, a horse cart loaded heavy with cut grass, the river making wide curves through the valley below, and a village arranged quietly on the far bank. The light has that late-August quality where everything is a little too warm, a little too still. The Dniester runs first through Ukraine and then through Moldova before reaching the Black Sea — and this view feels exactly like somewhere in that middle. Harvest Land is a picture of a place that still measures time in seasons.
