Bowed Harvest

A single bearded grain spike arcs low under its own late-summer weight, its feathery awns catching the day's last light against a sky sliding from blue to ember orange. A ladybug has stopped to rest right where the stalk bends, no bigger than the sun setting behind it. Out of focus below, meadow grass and a stray poppy blur into the same gradient — one stalk standing in for a whole harvest not yet brought in.
