Calmness

A small rowboat sits tied at the frost-dusted edge of a lake, fog rolling low over still water while a pale sun hangs behind bare winter trees. Everything here is muted — pastel sky, white shoreline, a boat going nowhere for the season — the kind of stillness that photographs better than it can be described. Calmness isn't a mood this image suggests. It's the one thing actually happening in it.
