Autumn Portrait

A woman's face dissolves into loose brushstrokes of green, gold and burnt orange, the boundary between skin and foliage never fully resolving. Her eyes hold steady in the middle of all that movement — the one part of the image that refuses to blur into allegory. It reads less like a portrait wearing autumn as a costume and more like autumn deciding, just this once, to wear a face.
