Anthem Of The Sun

by Igor Zenin · 2011

These are trembitas — the long alpenhorns carried by Hutsul shepherds in the Carpathian Mountains — raised together at first light in a custom that once called flocks home out of the evening mist, or carried word of a wedding, a funeral, an alarm, across ridges no road reached. Lined up against a rising sun, this is the region's oldest broadcast system, still working. Some anthems don't need a stage — just a mountain and enough breath to reach the next one over.
